When Jose Ramirez opened the first Los Dos Potrillos restaurant in Centennial in 2002, he was beginning a family legacy. Over two decades, the Ramirez family has grown their vision into a regional chain known for traditional Mexican cuisine, welcoming service, and a consistent standard of quality.

After 23 years of serving Colorado’s suburbs, the Ramirez family has brought their popular brand to Denver. The new restaurant at 4100 E. Mexico Avenue marks a move into the city’s evolving dining landscape.

A new chapter unfolds in Denver’s dining scene

The 8,000-square-foot space is one of the brand’s largest. It seats 253 guests inside and 70 on the outdoor patio. The interior balances vibrant design with a family-friendly atmosphere, featuring Mexican-inspired artwork, rustic materials, and a full bar offering house-brewed beers and handcrafted margaritas.

But it’s the food that continues to define Los Dos Potrillos. The menu includes dishes like carne asada, enchiladas suizas, molcajetes, and tacos based on recipes from Jose Ramirez’s upbringing in Mexico. His sons, Daniel and Luis Ramirez, now lead the business and have refined the offerings for a broader audience.

“We’ve always believed in staying true to our roots,” Daniel Ramirez said during the opening. “Bringing Los Dos Potrillos to Denver is about sharing a piece of our family with a wider community, without compromising what’s made us successful.”

From suburban staple to city contender

This is the family’s first location in Denver proper, but the brand already has a loyal following in Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Parker, and Castle Rock. Each location offers the same menu, with slight adjustments to match the local neighborhood’s preferences.

The choice to enter central Denver was a strategic one. Core City is a dense, fast-growing part of town with a competitive restaurant market. For the Ramirez family, this expansion is both a milestone and a challenge worth meeting.

Denver’s restaurant scene is shifting toward more personal, experience-driven concepts. Los Dos Potrillos brings that, with a clear sense of identity shaped by family values, cultural authenticity, and consistent execution.

The Ramirez family is considering further expansion but remains focused on quality over speed. Each new location is expected to follow the same principles that have guided the brand from the beginning.
