Female founded rum

Montanya’s long list of sustainability credentials include plastic neutral certification, the distillery is 100 percent wind powered, it offset 110 percent of its carbon production and uses water from a snowmelt-fed aquifer directly underneath the Colorado distillery. Environmental obligations are considered at every step, from sourcing American grown sugarcane from a family run co-operative in Louisiana, to bottling in Cradle to Cradle certified glass and FSC graded labels. These strong values are unequivocally represented throughout its incredible range of American spirits.

The hero of the range, Montanya’s aromatic Valentia rum, champions the progress, passion and community of women in distilling. This dry rum, whose name means ‘courage’ and ‘grit’ in Spanish, is distilled by women and bottled by a female-led bottling crew, before ageing at altitude for four years in Laws Whiskey House barrels and finishing in a rye barrel from fellow female owned distillery, Catoctin Creek. Valentia holds an aromatic sweetness with a bouquet of vanilla, cardamom, ginger and honeysuckle, made all the sweeter knowing a portion of proceeds benefit the Women of the Vine & Spirits Foundation, who support education and personal development for women in the alcohol beverage industry.

The range also includes its multi-award winning full-bodied Oro rum, its ruby Exclusiva rum which works well in place of whiskey in cocktails, and its Montanya’s Platino, which boasts a unique smoothness and complex flavor.
