A combination of organic hazelnuts, cocoa and chickpeas, it’s the first Hazelnut-Choc spread to use chickpeas as the primary ingredient (32 percent), with each jar containing on average 128 dried chickpeas and eight shelled hazelnuts. Spring 2021 saw the addition of two new varieties in the range – zesty Orange Hazelnut & Cocoa, reminiscent of everyone’s favorite Choc-Orange snacks, and Crunchy Hazelnut & Cocoa, made with real hazelnut pieces, for added bite.
Key to the creation of Fabalous was giving an everyday staple a healthier and more sustainable twist. There are just eight ingredients in each jar, all are organic, plant-based and natural. Fabalous switch out palm oil for sunflower oil and cocoa butter.
The rich chocolatey hit comes from ethically sourced cocoa, paired with hazelnut paste, sweetened with cane sugar and rounded off with a pinch of salt. Finally, Fabalous is committed to plastic free packaging, with glass jars, metal lids and paper labels.
The Editor was fortunate enough to be sent some of this premium spread to try. “I found it had a great chocolatey flavour and a nice easy to spread texture. The Crunchy version especially was excellent on toast, with a great consistency full of hazelnut pieces, that really complemented the cocoa richness of the spread. I loved the fact that I got the health benefits of chickpeas in a spread that feels indulgent and the sustainability side of the product made it even more appealing.”
