There is a new alternative to southern fried chicken for anyone who is looking to avoid meat – Vegan Fried Chick*n (VFC). Made from wheat protein, in an authentic southern fried and crispy corn flake coating, it looks, tastes and pulls apart like chicken, offering the same experience as traditional fried chicken, but as a vegan, high-protein alternative.
Created by Veganuary founder and entrepreneur, Matthew Glover, and acclaimed York chef, Adam Lyons, the VFC range has been created as part of the duo’s activist mission to stop the intensive factory farming of chickens without preaching or finger wagging.
Available in three options, diners can choose from Original Recipe Vegan Fried Popcorn Chick*n, original Recipe Vegan Fried Chick*n Bites, and original Recipe Vegan Fried Chick*n Fillets.
The team was keen to try the VFC products, and the Chick*n Bites especially were very well received. “I was impressed with these,” said our resident vegan. “They had a good hit of Southern fried flavor, an excellent texture and were appealing to look at, too. These have set the bar high for other brands to follow.”
