October Food Chain Taste Tests: Gü, Clearspring and Tony’s Chocolonely

There are many perks of working at Food Chain Magazine: working with amazing and inspiring brands, creating wonderfully designed editorial pieces, the list goes on. But, there is something a little different that catches the attention of many people in our offices, taste tests. These tests involve some delicious samples being sent to us for the team to taste test and review, which we love doing.

In October, we were lucky enough to be sent 3 sample products:

Take a look at our reviews below.

Tony’s Chocolonely Chunky Chocolate Bars

4 bars of Tony's Chocolonely's, sent to Food Chain Magazine for taste testing

Devotees of Tony’s Chocolonely’s renowned chunky chocolate can now enjoy their favorite sweet treat in a personal portion size. The new pocket-sized bars deliver pure indulgence in a 90g format without compromising on cocoa decadence.

These bars may be smaller, but they still pack a flavor punch in Tony’s signature unequally divided, damn tasty chocolate. Not just delicious, these treats are guilt-free: every bar is made with 100% traceable cocoa and deforestation-free, supporting Tony’s  mission to end exploitation in cocoa.

Chocoholics can choose from four fan-favorite flavors: Milk Chocolate, Milk Caramel Sea Salt, Dark Milk Pretzel Toffee and Dark Almond Sea Salt.

“The Dark Almond bar has a rich, complex flavour profile, with sweet notes and nuts,” our Taste Tester said. “At 51% cocoa, it was very smooth and not bitter at all. There was also a lovely melting texture!”

Organic Seaveg Crispies from Clearspring

Clearspring’s Organic Seaveg Crispies, sent to Food Chain Magazine for taste testing

There’s a new plant-based snack worth getting hooked on. Clearspring’s Organic Seaveg Crispies are impossibly thin, melt-in-your-mouth crisps made with roasted organic nori. Harnessing the umami magic flavor of the sea, they’re quite a catch: gluten-free, sugar-free and high in fibre, these ocean-kissed wafers are also an excellent source of protein.

Available in four bold flavors, savory snack enthusiasts can choose from warming Turmeric, fiery Chilli, zingy Ginger, or classic Original, seasoned with a light dusting of sea salt. Pop them straight from the packet for a low-calorie lunchbox treat, or crumble over ramen and rice bowls for an instant umami upgrade.

“The Chilli Seaveg Crispies are light with a good amount of spice,” our Taste Tester said. “They melt on the tongue! I think they would be great alongside rice.”

Find them at Wholefoods, Planet Organic, Ocado, Abel and Cole, and Amazon Fresh.
